A Little About Me
I grew up in snowy Syracuse, New York. It was there, in the North Syracuse School District, that I was fortunate enough to have a chance to begin violin lessons at the age of seven. It was a decision that shaped my academic career and brought me many wonderful opportunities.
I am a graduate of Syracuse University, where I played in the Syracuse University Symphony Orchestra as well as the SU summer festival orchestra. My college experience included a five month student teaching experience working with 4th through 8th grade students in a powerhouse string education school district near Syracuse (Fayetteville-Manlius schools). Here I learned various practical approaches for teaching strings to groups of students, and immediately found creative connections I could pull-in to help my private studio teaching. I earned a bachelors degree in music education and currently hold public school teacher certification in the State of New York.
I have been a private lesson instructor for over five years. I was married in June of 2006, and left the snow drifts for the sunny state of South Carolina. I maintain membership with the American String Teachers Association (ASTA) and the Music Educator's National Conference (MENC), as well as maintain contact with my peers from SU, so that I stay current on new ideas and materials in the field and so that I have resources to look to when I need to find ways to help my students succeed.
